FBI Bulletin Related to Amended STR Population Data

The UNT Center for Human Identification (UNTCHI) would like to bring to your attention a recent bulletin from the FBI describing an amendment to the 1999 and 2001 FBI STR population data used for calculating statistics regarding DNA evidence. The bulletin advises laboratories that the population data published in 1999 and 2001 have been amended because of a few minor inaccuracies in allelle frequencies due to clerical mistakes and limitations of old technology and software. While the impact of these minor differences is nominal, our priorities at UNTCHI are to use the best data available at the time of analysis, to ensure that our customers remain informed, and to comply with the recommendations of our accrediting agency, ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board. As of June 15, 2015, UNTCHI is using the 2015 amended FBI STR population data. If you have questions or concerns regarding this issue please contact the laboratory at 1-800-763-3147.
